 НАЗАД Volkov Pavel Semenovich

          Pavel Volkov was an initiative, lively young man. He loved children and was an honest worker. He read a lot and worked as an agitator, also he was a Komsomol leader. In June, 1940, P. Volkov was mobilized into the Soviet army. Having graduated from the Artillery military school in 1942, he came to the front as an artillery platoon commander. For taking part in the battles for Stalingrad in December, 22, 1942 he was decorated with a medal "For Service in Battle", later -"For the Defense of Stalingrad" and in April, 25, 1943 he received an Order of the Red Star. During the Great Patriotic War P.S. Volkov traveled along Ukraine and Byellorussia, the Baltic area and Eastern Prussia, Poland and Germany. He was decorated with medals and orders for service in battle. Seven times. Durung 4 years of war he saw many deaths and it seemed that the victory is not far. But the fate was merciless… In the last Berlin operation of the World War II our country-man, the captain of artillery Pavel Semyonovich Volkov was in the position of battery commander. In April, 28, 1945, the soviet army had been finishing the famous Berlin offensive operation. Destructive, anti-tank Regiment - 530 had a battle order to occupy safe, anti-tank defence in the Kummersdorf region near Berlin. The communist captain Volkov commanded the 4th battery. He was an experienced, impertinent and fearless person, that is whyhe was appointed to the anti-tank am bush and it was very important to the success of the regiment. Durung 2 days and nights the Volkov s battery was engaged in violent battles. Marshal of the Soviet Union Konev I.S. is recalling these events in his book "The year 45". The battery annihilated more then 20 enemy tanks bu the cannon fire and anti-tank bombs, as well as a lot of fascists and their machines. But still the powers were not equal. The connection was over as well as the whole ammunition. The last assault captain Volkov repulsed hand-to-hand together with other alive soldiers. He was the last man to die. He was wounded and having leaned to his cannon he continued to shoot in the enemy. When his cartridge was empty and he was encircled by fascists, he used the last grenade to kill himself and everybody around. In the military archive of the USSR Ministry of Defence there is a dispatch of the chief signal officer, the hero of Soviet Union-Sadovskiy U.V. Here is the quotation from this document: "I was an eyewitness of the 4thbattery Last fighting and the death of my best friend Pavel Volkov. My soldiers and I managed to hold the Line and to stand up till the dawn. In the dawn the alignment nas defeated by our fresh military units". In June 27, 1945 by the edict of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, captain Volkov Pavel Semyonovich was conferred by the high rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. He became the 13th hero of the regiment and one of 600 heroes who were honoured this rank capturing Berlin. The hero's dust from the place Grossmakhov was brought to the Soviet warriors graveyard hear Glazov, which is 20 km on south from Berlin. On the hero's mother Land in Achinsk and in the region everybody remember him. The heroic deed of P.S. Volkov is in commemoration of people forever.
