The Patriotic War. These words sound in different ways for everyone and we understand them not like others. As for me any war is pain, horror, hunger and certainly a great number of victims. Lots of innocent childrenТs corpses, wounded soldiers and amount of womenТs sufferings. ItТs horrible! Nothing can justify these deaths. The war which took place 60yars ago was the coldest, the most cruel, hungry. On 9 May in 1945 the war was over in Europe. The Soviet people won the Great Patriotic War against a powerful enemy, Nazi Germany and its allies, because our people were fighting a just war to liberate their own country. From the fist days of the war the Soviet people understood how cruel their enemy was. German army was going further and further burning every thing on itТs way.
The government used to explain people the aims and peculiarities of the war against Nazism. Every town tried to break enemyТs force. One of these cities was our native city which was called Gorky. Hundreds of thousands of Gorkovites took part in the battle of Moscow. Lots of people fought in partisanТs detachments. There are 42 Heroes Of the Soviet Union. There were a lot of hospitals in our city and over 500 thousand people were cured there. The working people of the city and its regions made great contribution during the years of the Great Patriotic war. The city of Gorky, the neighbouring towns and settlements were the places of many military troops formation and the arsenals of our country.
We always remember all the participants of the War, the soldiers, the officers, the generals, the civilians. No one is forgotten, noting is forgotten Ц is written on the monuments to those, who died in the war. So, weТd like to tell you about our country man called Sergei Ivanovich Vaganov. He started fighting in 1941. He really wanted to clean up our territory from the enemy. He used to be a sapper. It was dangerous as he couldnТt have any mistake as it could cost him his life. He saved the lives of lots of people. We know a lot of stories about his life. One of them is about crossing the river, when he did not spare his life He helped soldiers to cross the river. Every second he could be killed but he went further and further towards the river. He did his best during all the war. So he got a lot of different awards for his bravery. After the war he worked at the plant called УOrbitaФ and used to be an example for every-body. He died in 1984, but his friends recollect him every year on Victory Day.
There were a lot of heroes and because of that we have lots of monuments all over Russia dedicated to the Patriotic War. There are a lot of different streets in our city bearing the names of war heroes. The people of the world should remember that our country played the main role in the victory over fascism. We lost 27 million of our people and saved the world from fascism. Many years have passed, but we shouldnТt forget those who gave their lives for our Motherland.
