The Ermolayevs

Valentina Maximovna Kozhevnikova came to our school #689.
She asked us to help her to tell about the Ermolayevs. And she wanted to find Ira's classmates.
It was a happy family. Father's name was Grigory, mother's - Eudokia. The children were Ira and Boris (the photo from the beginning of the thirties, Leningrad. Ira is in the middle. Son Boris is on mother's hands). They lived in Leningrad at number 5 in Baburin street. (Now it is # 17 , Smolachkova street).

But disasters began before the war: father died. When the war began, Eudokia, Ira's and Boria's mother, was sent on "entrenchments" - to build defensive constructions. The Children stayed alone at home. Every day they got bread on cards, but once instead of bread they were given one slice of meat each. Weakened Ira's stomach could not digest such food, so Ira fell ill and died in September 1941. Ira's mother found out about it only later when she returned to Leningrad.
She died of starvation and grief in November, 1941. Small Boria was left without anyone. Mother of Valentina Maximovna could feed him, but her legs swelled because of starvation and she couldn't walk. Boria died in December, 1941.

Ivanova Alexandra Karpovna (19.11.1903-26.05.1998), mother of Valentina Maximovna, the Ermolayevs' neigbour, before the evacuation began to pack in a hurry documents and things. Then casually she found 2 photos of the Ermolayevs and two photos of Ira's class: the photo of the 3 form, the schoolmistress Agnia Alexandrovna (the photo of 1938, Leningrad. Ira is in the low row, the first at the left)

On the back of the photo of the 6 form of school # 105, that was made on February, 28, 1941, the last Ira's photo, the girl wrote the surnames of all her classmates.
