Nikifor Samsonovich Afanasyev was a collective-farmer from Mukhor-Taly. He was called up the army on the first day of the Great Patriotic War. He began his service on the West front as a cook, Then he became a sniper.
During the years of the Great Patriotic War with German fascism the experienced sharp-shooter had destroyed more than 200 fascists. In July, 1944, Nikifor Afanasyev had got a honourable title of the Hero of the USSR by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR.
After the War the hero came back to the peaceful work.
